Young amur tigress at Berlin Tierpark today. Sadly the autofocus of the 70-200mm 2,8 broke, so I was completely focusing by hand. This shot is not the sharpest, but somehow I really like it :) There will follow much more!

December 2012/ Nikon D300s/ Sigma 70-200mm 2,8 (broken)

ISO 400/ F 4/ 1/125 sec

I love the expression you've captured here- those eyes are just stunning. He's looking right at you, which really draws you in and makes the photo all the more powerful. If he was looking away or even looking just a little off in the distance I don't think it would be quite as eye-catching. The saturation is spot-on, too- nice contrast with the colors. I like how "un-busy" the background is, too. I only wish you had cropped some off the background off so we could focus more on the tiger. All the negative space just detracts from your subject.
What do you think?

I don't have autofocus, but manually seems like it'd give a person more control? It came out great! :D

Imagine this is your view from up a tree. I think you would be justified with a slightly out of focus picture! Staying in the moment! That's good photography! LOL

What a gorgeous girl... She is so beautiful! A truly impressive capture, Svenimal, even considering your problems with the autofocus! By the way, isn't it a bit weird? You seem to face such problems quite often. Provided I am correct, that is. Even if I am mistaken, a big respect for you! To overcome such difficulties and bring us a photo of such an amazing girl afterwards is truly worth our gratitude. Thank you! And what a gorgeous girl she is...

ACtually, I think the focus on this picture is perfect! The head is sharp and the body is just unfocused enough and I feel that gives it perfect depth. I for one thing this is quite the amazing shot, especially since you had enough time to get the camera focused by hand in time to have a still of the tiger!

Thank you for your rather long comment :) I am always happy when one takes their time to write some more text to my work!

I admit, in this small scale, the picture might look sharp, but for a poster it would be way too unsharp. ;) But I can live with it!

Focusing by hand is quite the challenge, but I am more than glad that you like this shot anyway :)
